What are longitudinal and transverse waves?
Longitudinal waves - oscillate parallel to the direction of energy transfer
Transverse waves - oscillate perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer

Longitudinal waves are made up of compressions and rarefactions and can’t travel in a vacuum.
Transverse waves can travel in a vacuum
What are examples of these types of waves?
Transverse - EM waves
Longitudinal - Sound
How can waves be represented using graphs?
Displacement-distance graphs

The distance between adjacent peaks is the wavelength.
Transverse waves look similar to the actual wave, whereas longitudinal waves look different to the actual wave
Displacement-time graphs

The distance between adjacent peaks is the time period
