Human Nervous System
An important control system in body coordination that detects stimuli, sends information in the form of impulses, interprets impulses, and produces appropriate responses.
Central Nervous System
The part of the human nervous system comprising the brain and spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System
The part of the human nervous system comprising cranial nerves and spinal nerves.
Pathway of Voluntary Action
The sequence of a voluntary action: Stimuli -> Affector (receptor) -> Brain -> Effector -> Response.
Involuntary Actions Involving Medulla Oblongata
Automatic actions controlled by the medulla oblongata, such as heartbeat and breathing.
Involuntary Actions Involving Spinal Cord
Reflex actions involving the spinal cord, such as sneezing when dust enters the nose and withdrawing a hand when touching a hot object.
Brain Injury Effect
The condition wherein a person becomes temporarily, partially, or completely paralyzed following damage to the brain.
