Developmental Disability
A condition characterized by physical or mental impairments that begin before age 22 and affect abilities in at least three domains such as self-care, communication, and independent living.
Intellectual Disability
A condition previously referred to as 'mental retardation,' involving cognitive performance and adaptive behaviors, affecting twice as many males as females.
Etiologies of Intellectual Disability
The causes of intellectual disability including chromosomal anomalies, genetic conditions, and untreated pathologies like inborn errors of metabolism.
Brain Injury
The leading cause of death and disability for American children and teens, which can affect communication, cognitive function, and personality.
Primary Damage
The direct damage caused to the brain at the time of injury.
Secondary Damage
