What does an SD signal
An SD signals that a particular consequence is available for a particular behavior, based on a history of differential reinforcement.
What does an MO change?
An MO changes the effectiveness/value of a consequence and changes the current likelihood of behavior related to that consequence.
What is the easiest way to distinguish an SD from an MO?
SD → “Is reinforcement available?”
MO → “How valuable/effective is the reinforcement right now?”
A vending machine displays “Ready” and pressing the button produces a drink. Is “Ready” more like an SD or MO?

It signals that reinforcement is available for the response.
A person has not had anything to drink for several hours, making water more reinforcing. What concept is this?
