The set of all Rational Numbers
These are numbers of the form a/b where a and b are elements of Z and b does not equal 0

The set of all of all Irrational Numbers
Numbers that are not rational numbers are called irrational numbers.

The set of Real Numbers
The set of real numbers consists of all of the rational and irrational numbers. Commonly, the real numbers are described as all numbers that have points on the number line.

The set of all Complex Numbers
You have likely heard of complex numbers. Complex numbers are of the form x +yi, where x and y are elements of the real numbers and i =squareroot-1 . We will discuss this number system in detail later in the text.
