Since last week, the BBC has been in the middle of a controversy. But why are they in this controversy ?
The BBC is accused of slander by Donald Trump because of a documentary which took part in the program Panorama and in which there is a bad voluntary edit of Donald Trump's speech just before the assault of the Capitole.
And was this edit compromising for the US president ?
The BBC edited Donald Trump saying things that he didn't say, and in which we could think that he fostered his partisans to attack the Capitole, but he didn't say that, they just made a cut that made him say that.
And so, what are the consequences for BBC News ?
The channel has been threatened by Donald Trump and risks a sentence that might reach 5 billion dollars.
I also heard that the BBC lost in this controversy it's 2 directors, is it the case?
Yes, and moreover, they removed the video just after the complaint and they sent an apology letter to the US president.
What does it reveal about the current state of the BBC ?
This isn't the first time that the BBC is accused of slander. It reveals a bad tendency, because this media once was a symbol of impartiality, and it is now changing because of the pressure of the conservative right wing that finds the BBC too "woke".
So, you are saying that somebody paid someone at the BBC to deliberately make this error, to weaken the BBC ?
We can't be sure of that but maybe it is the case, knowing that today, the BBC's way of financing is discussed because the BBC politic isn't in harmony with the British opinion, which is more conservative.
Thank you for these answers, goodbye.
