Cyclical nature
A pattern in which a business repeatedly goes through periods of growth and decline because of changing market conditions.
Evaporate
To disappear very quickly, especially when expected profits are suddenly lost.
Revenue stream
A regular source of income generated by a business or activity.
Return on investment (ROI)
The value or financial benefit gained from the money, time, or resources invested in something.
Ego project
A project pursued partly for personal satisfaction, status, or enjoyment rather than because it is the best business opportunity.
Rocket ship
A business with the potential to grow extremely quickly and become very large.
Viral
Able to spread or grow extremely quickly and reach a very large number of people.
Tier
A particular level of ability, quality, or performance.
Beyond a shadow of doubt
With complete certainty and without any reason to doubt someone or something.
Asset rich & cash poor
Owning valuable assets but having very little available cash to pay current expenses or debts.
White knight scenario
A situation in which a friendly buyer or investor rescues a struggling company from bankruptcy or another serious threat.
Cherry pick
To choose only the most attractive or valuable opportunities from a larger group.
P&L (Profit & Loss)
A financial statement showing a company's revenues, expenses, and whether it made a profit or loss over a period of time.
Balance sheet
A financial statement showing what a company owns, what it owes, and its financial position at a particular point in time.
Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
A legal agreement requiring confidential business information not to be shared with others.
Bleeding out
To be rapidly losing money and moving closer to business failure.
Surviving on fumes
Continuing to operate with almost no money, resources, or financial reserves left.
Personal credit lines
Personal borrowing facilities that an owner uses to obtain money to keep the business operating.
Windfall
A large or unexpected amount of money received suddenly, often without much effort.
Business acumen
The ability to understand business situations and make good commercial decisions.
Sloppy setups
Poorly organized business operations with weak systems, outdated methods, or inadequate equipment.
Corporate raiders
Investors or buyers who take control of troubled companies, often replacing management and restructuring the business.
Sabotage
To deliberately interfere with or damage someone's plans or attempts to improve a business.
The rub

Walking money
A relatively small amount of cash given to the former owner when taking over a failing business, allowing them to leave with something.

To give someone a very strong warning or tell them firmly that their behavior must change.

Trick pony
A supposed special trick, secret, or technique that someone believes will solve a difficult problem.

Grind to a full halt
To gradually slow down until a business or process stops completely.
Boxed-in views
A narrow way of thinking that prevents someone from seeing alternative solutions or business models.

Something treated as unimportant and considered only after more important priorities have been dealt with.
