Singular possessive noun formation
To form the possessive of a singular noun, add an apostrophe and 's'.
How to form possessive of plural noun ending in 's'
For a plural noun ending in 's', add only an apostrophe.
Irregular plural noun possessive
For an irregular plural noun (does not end in 's'), add an apostrophe and 's'.
Example of singular possessive noun
Car's (from car) is an example of a singular possessive noun.
Example of plural possessive noun
Dogs' (from dogs) is an example of a plural possessive noun.
Example of irregular plural possessive noun
Children's (from children) is an example of an irregular plural possessive noun.
Determining possessive noun
To use a possessive noun, determine if the noun is singular or plural and where to place the apostrophe.
