Ball and Socket Joint

Round end of one bone fits inside a cup-shaped ending on another bone (e.g. shoulders & hips)

Pivot Joint

Have a ring of bone that fits over a bone protrusion, around which it can rotate (e.g. neck)

Saddle Joint

Ends of two bones fit together in a special way (e.g. thumb)

Hinge Joint

Only allow forwards and backwards movement

Condyloid Joint

Have an oval shaped bone end which fits into a correspondingly shaped bone end (e.g. thumb)

Gliding Joint

Have two flat faces of bone that slide over one another
