What does Darwin's believe of evolution?
3 things
What is Darwin's theory of natural selection?
He believes that the environment selects which traits are favorable (bunnies that live in snowy places having white fur), and those animals are move likely to survive and flourish
What did Darwin mean when he said species vary globally?
- Species change over time to adapt to their surroundings
- different species in similar environments can develop similar traits through natural selection—even if they're on different continents
What did Darwin mean when he said species vary locally?
- Different environments "select" for different traits
- causing local variations in species—even if they live close together
Even if animals live near each other and seem very similar, their characteristics can very based on their environment and natural selection
What did Darwin mean when he said species vary over time?
- fossil record shows a connection between past and present life
- It helped Darwin see that life is not fixed—it evolves over time
Species change and grow over time. God did not place animals exactly how they were
How does natural selection occur?
- Via survival of the fittest, animals with the more helpful traits and more likely to survive in that environment. They will often over power the other species. Have most offspring
- genetics pass on the helpful traits
- animals adapt and change in order to survive in their environment
What is an adaptation?
When an animal's characteristic changes in order to fit and survive in their environment
