Cell Division
The process by which a parent cell divides and give rise to new daughter cells to increase their number.
Daughter cells
New cells produced after division, also referred to as progeny cell or offspring.
Cell Cycle
A sequence of events occurring in a cell in a coordinated manner, involving genome replication and cell growth, which ultimately divides to give rise to daughter cells.
Cell growth
The increase in cytoplasmic growth that occurs continuously throughout the cell cycle.
DNA duplication
Also known as replication or genome replication, this process occurs during a specific stage called S-phase.
S-phase
The specific stage in the cell cycle where DNA duplication, replication, or genome replication occurs.
Synthesis of other constituents
The production of all organelles, ATP, RNA, and protein during the cell cycle.
Daughter cell production
The final step of the cell cycle resulting in division into 2 daughter cells.
Genetic control
The system under which the entire cell cycle is regulated.
