2. Emotional → failure to provide for a child’s feelings (ex: marked inattention to the child’s needs for affection)

3. Educational → failure to provide for a child’s basic intellectual needs

What are the 3 types of neglect?

1. Physical → infliction or risk of bodily injury

2. Psychological → mistreatment that causes serious behavioural, cognitive, emotional or mental disorders

3. Sexual → mistreatment of a sexual nature

What are the 3 types of abuse?

Traumatic event	Stressful event

What’s the difference between a traumatic event and a stressful event?

Any external condition or surrounding that are considered fundamental and necessary for healthy development

What’s an expectable environment?

Being singled out for abuse across multiple domains of the child’s life

What’s polyvictimization?

The repetition of patterns of violent behaviour across generations

What’s the cycle of violence hypothesis?

Outcome of child abuse wherein the child’s sexual knowledge and behaviour are shaped in developmentally inappropriate ways
