Both Teams Foul

  • No change of possession: Fouls offset and the down is replayed

  • Change of possession

- Team in final possession has “dirty hands”: The fouls will offset and the down is replayed

- Team in final possession has “clean hands”: The team in possession can decline the foul against their opponent and keep the ball where it ends up after the foul against them in enforced

  • A team took possession of the ball and did not foul on the play or fouled after they took possession

- PSK fouls fall into the category of being fouls after the change of possession

  • They will be able to keep the ball

Dead Ball Fouls

  • Do not cancel live ball fouls

  • Before the ball is next ready for play

- If both teams foul and neither of the fouls have been completed the fouls offset, regardless of the number of them on each side

- Any foul that is enforced is enforced before the line to gain is established

  • After the ball is next ready for play

- If both teams foul and one team’s foul is completed before the other team commits there foul then both will be enforced (Check on this one)

- Any foul that is enforced is enforced after the line to gain is established

Fouls During Touchdown Plays

  • Personal foul or UNS on B can both be carried over to the try or next free kick

- Other fouls by B are declined by rule to allow the score unless there is a spot of illegal touching that allows for enforcement

  • Foul by A is enforced as normal and cancels the score

  • Team B fouls can be accepted at the previous spot by canceling the score

- Personal fouls and UNS can be rolled over to the succeeding free kick or spot where B will next put the ball in play if during extra periods

  • Foul by A is enforced as normal and cancels the score

Lateral Choice on PAT

  • A has choice if one of the following happens

- The declaration is made before a ready for play signal or the play clock reaches beneath 25 seconds

- B fouls

- There is a charged team timeout to either team

  • A does not have a choice if the following happens

- A has fouled, even if there was a charged team timeout after the foul

- There were offsetting fouls, even if there was a charged team timeout after the foul

Overtime Possession Rules

  • Each team maintains possession of the ball until they either score or fail to get a first down

  • If team B gains possession of the ball it continues to be live until declared dead by rule

- B can score on these plays and end OT

  • If the play ends with team B in possession or team B had possession during the play the overtime period is over

- Either way B will be the next to put the ball in play at the A-25
