Inspection

A dermoid cyst located behind the ear on the line of fusion of the mesodermal hillocks that form the pinna.

Sacrococcygeal Teratoma

An extragonal germ cell tumor typically seen in the midline at the tail bone.

Black Swelling Color

The diagnostic color associated with a benign nevus and melanoma.

Red or Purple Swelling Color

The diagnostic color associated with a hemangioma, depending on whether it is arterial or venous.

Bluish Swelling Color

The diagnostic color associated with a ranula.

Spherical Shape Description

The preferred term used to describe a round swelling instead of 'circular', as deeper dimensions are not known from inspection alone.

Papilloma Surface

An obvious diagnostic surface of a swelling characterized as irregular with numerous branches.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma Surface

An obvious diagnostic surface of a swelling described as a cauliflower surface.

Edge of Swelling

A feature observed during inspection that may be clearly defined or indistinct, and may present as pedunculated or sessile.
