  • Lincoln was anti popular sovereignty (didn’t want to end slavery)

Lincolns inaugural address

  • Lincoln won every state in the north. In his address he tried to prevent the south from seceding to avoid the civil war. He also stated that he does not intend on ending slavery.

Secession of South Carolina and the rest of the southern states

  • When Lincoln got elected the southern states didn’t feel properly represented since Lincoln wasn’t on their ballot. So they succeeded from the union.
