Hypervolemia (Fluid Volume Excess)
A condition defined as having too much fluid in the vascular space, including veins, arteries, capillaries, and arterioles.
Heart Failure (HF)
A condition where the heart is weak, leading to decreased Cardiac Output (CO), decreased kidney perfusion, and decreased Urinary Output (UO), causing volume to stay in the vascular space.
Renal Failure (RF)
A condition where the kidneys are not working, leading to the buildup of fluid.
Effervescent soluble medications
Examples like alka seltzer that contain a lot of sodium and cause the body to retain water.
Aldosterone
A steroid and mineralocorticoid found in the adrenal glands that increases blood volume by retaining sodium and water in the vascular space.
Cushings syndrome
A disease characterized by too much of all steroids, leading to excessive aldosterone levels.
Hyperaldosteronism
Also known as Conn's syndrome, a condition characterized by the overproduction of aldosterone.
Addison disease
A disease characterized by having too little aldosterone.
Anti-diuretic Hormone (ADH)
A hormone that normally functions to make the body retain water in the vascular space.
