What is translational control?
Switching translation on and off
If we don't want translation to occur, what happens?
Degrade mRNA
OR
Inhibitory proteins binding to the mRNA.
Inhibitory proteins binding to the mRNA
This will stop the mRNA from binding with the ribosome.
If we want translation to occur, what happens?
Activate initiation factors
Activate initiation factors
This allows mRNA to bind to the ribosome.
This is done by phosphorylation. We add a phosphate group to the proteins to activate them using protein kinases.
Protein kinases can be activated by cAMP.
