Flexibility
The ability to move a joint through a range of motion.
Synergistic Dominance
When a muscle that should assist in movement is overly active, leading to imbalances.
Reciprocal Inhibition
The process where activating one muscle results in the inhibition of its antagonist.
Length Tension Relationship (LTR)
Muscles are stronger when at their resting length rather than when shortened.
Active Isolated Stretching
A technique that involves holding a stretch for a short duration to activate the antagonist muscle.
Dynamic Stretching
A stretching technique involving movement and is often used to prepare for physical activity.
Core Stability
The ability to control the position and movement of the torso and pelvis.
Local Stabilizing Muscles
Muscles that provide stability to the vertebrae and spine.
Global Stabilizing Muscles
Muscles that provide stability throughout the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex while transferring loads.
Balance
The ability to maintain the center of gravity over the base of support.
