Nation
a territory where its the people are led by the same government. The word “nation” can also refer to a group of people who share a history, traditions, culture and, often, language—even if the group does not have a country of its own.
Nation-State
A country that has physical boarders and a single government, may be based on ethnic nationalism or civic nationalism or a combination of the two.
International
Between countries or nation-states, may co-operate with one another to promote peace and security, trade, health, human rights, and the protection of endangered peoples and cultures.
Nationalism
Refers to the strong loyalty and devotion a person feels towards their country, often prioritizing its interests and culture above others.
Self-Determination
The power to control one’s own affairs, the power of people within a nation-state or nation to make their own decisions about what is in their interest.
Sovereignty
The political authority to control one’s own affairs, can sometimes conflict with self determination, which is a people’s right to control their own affairs.
Patriotism
Love of country and an interest in its well-being. A sense of loyalty that may be expressed in various ways.
Ethnic Nation
A nation defined by shared ethnicity, encompassing cultural and/or ancestral ties like language, religion, customs, and history.
Civic Nation
A political identity built around shared citizenship and values within a state, rather than shared ethnicity or culture.
Collective consciousness
An internal consciousness, or awareness, shared by many people. It may be based on a shared memory of and pride in specific events, which become myths and symbols of belonging.
Rhetoric
The art of shaping language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience.
Contending loyalties
Loyalties that compete. People sometimes need to choose among various loyalties based on their commitment to those loyalties.
Cultural pluralism
A belief or doctrine that holds that collectives should be encouraged to affirm and promote their unique cultural identity in a diverse society.
Reasonable accommodation
A legal and constitutional concept that requires Canadian public institutions to adapt to the religious and cultural practices of minorities as long as these practices do not violate constitutional rights and freedoms.
Sovereigntists
Typically used for describing the acquiring or preserving political independence of a nation or a region, a sovereigntist aims to "take back control" from perceived powerful forces, either against internal subversive minority groups (ethnic, sexual or gender), or from external global governance institutions, federalism.

Nationalist loyalty
Be faithful to your country or nation by going to a parade, or displaying a flag, or keeping in touch with your community.
National interest
The interests of the people of a nation. National interest may include economic prosperity, security and safety, and beliefs and values.
Peacekeeping
A strategy for maintaining and establishing peace in conflict zones, often involving international or regional forces to observe and monitor ceasefires, prevent violence, and support the transition from conflict to peace.
Peacemaking
Allowing armed forces that were originally sent to maintain peace in a region of conflict to use force for reasons other than self-defence.
