Pathogens
Disease causing micro-organisms that intrude the body, release harmful toxins & trigger the immune system response that results in illness
The 4 main pathogens
Viruses, Bacteria, Fungi, and Parasites
Virus
Tiny agents that invade host cells to multiply (e.g., Covid-19, Influenza, Common Cold)
Bacteria
Single celled micro organisms that can multiply quickly (e.g., Strep throat, Tuberculosis, E.Coli)
Fungi
Plant like organisms such as mold or yeast (e.g., Athletes foot, Ringworm)
Parasites
Organisms that survive by living on or inside a host (e.g., Malaria, Worms)
