pt hx, physical exam, labs
3 main ways to determine a pts intravascular volume status
alcohol use, GI issues/vomiting, current IV use either by presentation or through chart, dialysis
what is important during the pt history concerning fluids?
dehydration of mucous membranes, +resting HR, -BP, -UO, orthostatic HR and BP changes (BP compensation when pt stands)
what is important during physical exam regarding intravascular volume status?
indirectly gauge pts intravascular volume status
what is important during the lab evaluation regarding intravascular volume status
increasing Hgb and Hct due to lack of fluid, these values will decrease after fluid resuscitation
how may dehydrated pts Hgb and Hct present and what will happen when you fluid recuscitate?
