Babur
Greatest ruler of the Mughal Empire in India (r. 1556-1605). He expanded the empire and pursued a policy of cooperation with Hindus.
Akbar
A mixture of Arabic, Hindi, and Hindi- a mixture of Persian and local language. Is the official language of Pakistan.
Urdu
Book of Akbar. Tells the story of the great campaigns and deeds of Akbar.
Akbarnamah
Written by Tulsi Das or Tulsidas, it is the retelling of the love story of Rama and Seta from the 4th century- B.C.E.
Ramayana
A monotheistic religion founded in northern India in the 16th century by the guru Nanak. Rejects caste distinctions, idolatry, and asceticism and is characterized by belief in a cycle of reincarnation from which humans can free themselves by living righteous lives as active members of society

Persian Empress who was considered to be the real power behind the throne from 1611-1622. Considered one of the most powerful women in Indian history.

A breathtaking building made of white marble inlaid with precious stones; built as a tomb for Mumtaz Mahal the wife of Shah Jahan
