Wave
Periodic disturbances traveling through space (often vibrating a medium except light wave)
Progressive Wave
Wave which carries energy from one place to another (transverse/longitudinal)
Transverse Wave
Medium vibrates at right angle to motion of energy moving
Longitudinal Wave
Mediums oscillating same direction as the wave energy moves (compression waves)
Doppler Effect
Change in frequency at wavelength of a wave observed when the source of wave is moving towards or away from observed (motion relative to each other)
Plane Polarization
Can only happen to transverse waves; takes out either x or y component of wave
Principle of Superstition
When two or more waves (of same type) meet at a point the resulting displacement is sum of displacement of two waves
Diffraction of Wave
Spreading of a wave as it passes through a gap or past an edge of an object (wave property)
Coherent Sources
Both sources must have exact same frequency and a constant phase diffrence
Standing (Stationary) Waves
Stable wave pattern produced by superstition of two progressive waves of same frequency and are traveling with opposite directions (Nodes & Antinodes)
Nodes
Antinodes
Minimum Displacement
Max Displacement
Progressive Wave
Speed
Frequency
How fast the wave travels (distance per unit of time)
How many wave cycles pass a point in one second
