Hydrologic cycle
A natural process that involves the continuous movement of water throughout earth
Evaporation
allows water to move from bodies of water into the atmosphere as the water vapor rises into the atmosphere.
Condensation
occurs when the water vapor cools and transforms back into a liquid form, forming droplets of tiny particles in the air.
Precipitation
This can take various forms such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
infiltration
water penetrates the soil, where it is absorbed by plants’ roots or seeps down further Earths surface.
Groundwater
refers to the water that lies beneath the Earth’s surface. Filling up space, rocks, and sediment
Runoff
Occurs when water flows over the land surface and eventually reaches streams, rivers, and eventually the ocean
transpiration
Process by which plants release water vapor into the atmosphere through their leaves
Percolation
Process that occurs when water moves through the sediments and permeable rock layers, eventually reaching the groundwater reservoirs
