Depression
A mental disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, loss of interest, and other symptoms affecting daily functioning.
Mood
A person's sustained experience of emotion.
Affect
The immediate experience and expression of emotion.
Mood disorders
Mental health conditions that involve a significant disturbance in mood, leading to periods of depression or mania.
Anhedonia
A decreased ability to experience pleasure.
Psychomotor agitation
A condition in which a person is in a state of increased anxiety and restlessness.
Epidemiology
The study of how often diseases occur in different groups of people and why.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
A disorder characterized by excessive anxiety and worry about various aspects of life.
Panic Disorder
A type of anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent unexpected panic attacks.
Comorbidity
The presence of one or more additional conditions co-occurring with a primary condition.
Bipolar Disorder
A mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
DSM-5-TR
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision, a manual used by healthcare professionals to diagnose mental disorders.
Cognitive Model of Depression
A model suggesting that negative beliefs and schemas established from early experiences contribute to and maintain depression.
The ABC Model
A framework that describes how activating events lead to beliefs, which in turn lead to emotional and behavioral consequences.
Dysthymia
A chronic form of depression characterized by low mood occurring for at least two years.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
A type of depression that shows up in seasonal patterns, usually during the winter months.
Thought Disorder
A mental disorder affecting cognition, characterized by disorganized thinking and communication.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
A mental disorder triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
