How do we know a blood sample is type A blood?
if we see clotting/agglutination when adding anti serum a to blood then that would signify it is tyoe a blood
How do we know a blood sample is type B blood?
if we see clotting/agglutination when adding anti serum b to blood then that would signify it is type b blood —— note: this is the same process of Rh
what is agglutination?
clotting of the blood — antibodies and antigens react together

what blood type is this?
type a

what blood type is this?
type b

would this sample be Rh positive or negative?
positive bc of clumping
how do we measure hematocrit?
RBCs divided by total amount multiplied by 100
what is hematocrit? (definition)
RBC’s concentration in blood
what is the normal hematocrit for a male?”
41-50%
what is the normal hematocrit for a women?
36-44%
what is the relationship between hematocrit, hemoglobin, and RBC count?
hematocrit measures RBC volume, so a low hematocrit typically indicates a low RBC count which means a lower hemoglobin level (indication of anemia). This would mean their relationship is directly proportional.
what is the pathway of electrical conduction through the heart?
SA node (pacemaker) — AV node (brief delay) —- bundle of his (branches down interventricular septum) —- purkinje fibers (up the ventricular walls)

what is this?
SA node

what is this?
AV node

what is this?
bundle of his

what is this?
bundle branches

what is this?
purkinje finbers
what are the basic parts of an EKG?
p wave, QRS complex, T wave

what is this?
P wave

what is this?
QRS complex

what is this?
t wave
what happens in the P wave?
atrial depolarization — atria contract
what happens in the QRS complex?
ventricular depolarization — ventricles contract, masking atrial repolarization (this is the relaxation)
what happens in the T wave
ventricle repolarization which is when the ventricles relax
do arteries carry blood to or away from the heart?
away
do veins carry blood to or away from the heart
they return blood back to the heart
do antibodies or antigens determine your blood type?
antigens — present on surface of your RBCs
what is an antibody?
like security guards — they defend against things that dont belong on body
how do we measure hematocrit?
you can use a ruler to divide RBC’s length by the total length (plasma and rbcs) then multiply by 100
lymphatic system function
lymphatic vessels act as a drainage system and collect tissue fluid that leaks out of blood capillaries and return it safely to the bloodstream
PR segment
brief electrical pause button in the heart

what is this
aortic arch

what is this?

cephalic vein

median cubital vein

basilic vein

radial artery

ulnar artery

femoral

inferior vena cava

abdominal aorta

common iliac vein

common iliac artery

popliteal artery
