Posterior, dorsal
Back side of the body or spinal cord. In the spinal cord, it receives SENSORY (afferent) information.
Anterior, ventral
Front side of the body or spinal cord. In the spinal cord, it sends MOTOR (efferent) commands to muscles.
Afferent
Nerve fibers that carry sensory information from receptors TO the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).
Efferent
Nerve fibers that carry motor commands FROM the central nervous system to muscles and glands.
Posterior horn
Gray matter.
Sensory neuron cell bodies/interneurons.
Receives sensory information.
2 in IMAGE.

Sensory
POSTERIOR HORN’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?
Anterior horn
Gray matter.
Somatic motor neuron cell bodies.
Sends signals to skeletal muscle.

Motor
ANTERIOR HORN’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?
Lateral horn
Gray matter.
Autonomic motor neuron cell bodies.
Sympathetic output (T1–L2).

Motor
LATERAL HORN’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?
Posterior root ganglion
PNS.
Sensory neuron cell bodies.

Sensory
POSTERIOR ROOT GANGLION’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Posterior root
Sensory axons entering spinal cord.

Sensory
POSTERIOR ROOT’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Anterior root
Motor axons leaving spinal cord.

Motor
ANTERIOR ROOT’s function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Posterior ramus
Mixed nerve.
Supplies back muscles and skin.

Mixed
POSTERIOR RAMUS’ function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Anterior ramus
Mixed nerve.
Supplies limbs and anterior/lateral trunk.

Mixed
ANTERIOR RAMUS’ function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Rami communicantes
Mixed fibers.
Connect spinal nerve to sympathetic trunk.

Mixed
RAMI COMMUNICANTES‘ function SENSORY, MIXED or MOTOR?

Sympathetic trunk ganglion
PNS.
Sympathetic motor neuron cell bodies.
