Methods of studying the solar system

Deformation

Ductile vs brittle
Ductile rocks show a great amount of plastic strain (they bend) before
they fracture.

Normal dip Slip faults- Hanging wall moves down relative to the footwall, divergent
Reverse dip-slip fault- hanging wall moves up relative to footwall due to being pushed up, convergent
strike-slip fault- move side to side, transform

Europa orbiting Jupiter has strike-slip faults

Mass wasting: forces, factors, types
Mass wasting is the downslope movemnet of material resulting fro the force of gravity
forces- Shear strength, gravity, slope angle
Causes- Us, Weather and Climate, Water content, loss of vegetation,
Types- Rate of Movement (rapid vs slow), Types of movment (falls,slides, or flows), and type of material (rock, soil, or debris)
