Due process clause; state cannot deny life, liberty, or property

Due Process Clause

For treatment in judicial system

• Ex. right to a hearing, right to present evidence

• In the 14th Amendment it applies to the state

• In 5th Amendment it applies to federal govt

Equal Protection Clause

The law must treat people in similar situations equally, law must be enforced the same way for all people, a gov’t or laws cannot deny people their rights
