Synthesis Reaction
Elements are joined together; Two substances combine to form one new compound. A + X -> AX
Decomposition Reaction
A compound breaks into parts; A single compound undergoes a reaction that produces two or more simpler substances. AX -> A + X
Single Displacement Reaction
A single element replaces an element in a compound. A + BX -> AX + B or BX + Y -> BY + X
Double Displacement Reaction
An element from each of two compounds switch places; The ions of two compounds exchange places in an aqueous solution to form two new compounds. AX(aq) + BY(aq) -> AY + BX
Metal carbonates Decomposition
Metal carbonates + heat -> Metal oxides + Carbon dioxide
Metal chlorates Decomposition
Metal chlorates + heat -> Metal chlorides + Oxygen
Driving forces of double replacement reactions
Formation of a precipitate, formation of a gas, or formation of water.
