How do Beta Blockers work?

Beta blockers slow HR and lower BP by blocking the effects of epinephrine/ norepinephrine (stress hormones) on the heart and blood vessels.

Your Heart, Lungs, and Blood Vessels have beta-adrenergic receptors on them. Beta blockers bind to these receptors and prevent epinephrine from binding to them.

Apixaban is the generic name for Eliquis.

Eliquis is an anti-coagulant.

Eliquis works by inhibiting factor Xa (Activated factor X). Factor Xa is an enzyme which is created by your liver and exists in your blood plasma. Factor Xa converts prothrombin (a protein in the blood) into thrombin, which is essential for the formation of fibrin clots. Eliquis prevents and treat blood clots.

What is it prescribed for?

Cholesterol is made in the liver. One of the key ingredients to making Cholesterol is the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. Statin drugs block this enzyme, reducing the amount of Cholesterol in the blood.

Statins are prescribed for high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia, Coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, acute coronary syndrome, TIA/CVA, STEMI.
