Personality Disorders
Persistent pattern of emotions, thoughts, and behaviours that results in enduring distress and impairment.
Cluster A
Odd or Eccentric personality disorders including Paranoid, Schizoid, Schizotypal.
Paranoid Personality Disorder
Characterized by a pervasive distrust and suspicion of others.
Schizoid Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Features odd beliefs, behavior, and social anxiety, often closely related to schizophrenia.
Cluster B
Dramatic, Emotional, or Erratic personality disorders including Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, Narcissistic.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others.
Borderline Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects.
Histrionic Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of excessive emotion and attention-seeking behavior.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy.
Cluster C
Anxious or Fearful personality disorders including Avoidant, Dependent, Obsessive-Compulsive.
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation.
Dependent Personality Disorder
Pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of, leading to submissive and clinging behaviors.
Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder
Pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control.
Self-Injury
Deliberate damage to one’s own bodily tissue without suicidal intent, for reasons not socially sanctioned.
Suicide Ideation
Thinking about or voicing suicidal feelings, categorized as passive or active.
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Disorder (NSSID)
Involves NSSI on at least 5 days over the past year, currently considered for further study.
ADHD
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Characterized by impairments in social communication and repetitive patterns of behavior.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
A pattern of angry/irritable moods and argumentative/defiant behaviors lasting at least 6 months.
Conduct Disorder (CD)
A repetitive, persistent pattern of behavior where the rights of others or societal norms are violated.
Civil Commitment
Involuntary commitment to a mental health facility when the individual is a danger to themselves or others.
NCRMD (Not Criminally Responsible on account of Mental Disorder)
Legal status indicating a person is not held responsible for a crime due to mental disorder.
Fitness to Stand Trial
A determination of a defendant's ability to understand the charges against them and assist in their defense.
Gender Dysphoria
Mismatch between experience/expressed gender and assigned gender, causing significant distress.
Informed Consent
A process to ensure that participants understand the risks and benefits of research.
