Beam
it is the structural member that supports the TRAVERSE LOAD which usually RESTS on supports at its end
Simple beam, Continuous beam,.Semi-continuous beam, Cantilevered beam
4 Classifications of beams
Simple beam
a beam having a SINGLE SPAN supported at its END
Continuous Beam
it is a beam that RESTS ON MORE THAN 2 SUPPORTS
Semi-continuous beam
a beam with TWO SPANS
Cantilivered Beam
a beam that is supported at ONE END or along its length.
Live Load
MOVABLE LOADS imposed on the floor such as people, furniture and the like.
Dead Load
STATIC LOAD such as the weight of the construction materials which generally carry the live load
Floor Joist
those parts of the floor system PLACED ON THE GIRDER OF THE BEAMS where the floor boards are fastened.
Header of Trimmer
a SHORT TRAVERSE JOIST that supports the end of the cut-off joist at a stair well hole.
One Way Slab
- runs only at ONE DIRECTION that is FROM BEAM TO BEAM
- additional reinforcements are also placed on the slab parallel to the beams perpendicular to the main reinforcements called temperature reinforcement.
Two Way Slab
- supported on FOUR SIDES where the FLOOR PANEL is nearly SQUARE and is generally economical to employ the two directions of reinforcing bars placed at right angle with each other.
Corbel
structural wood That supports and ATTACH THE WOOD FLOOR JOIST TO BEAM
Bridging
BRACES fixed between floor joists to keep them in place.
Cantilevered slab
it is a slab that is supported at one end
Deformed Bars
it is a STEEL REINFORCING BAR manufactured with SURFACE DEFORMATIONS to provide a LOCKING ANCHORAGE with the surrounding concrete.
Rebars
a STEEL BAR having RIBS to provide greater bonding strength when used as a reinforcing bar in reinforced concrete.
Stirrups
a reinforcement device to RESIST SHEAR and DIAGONAL TENSION stresses in beam
