What is Geography?

The study of the Earth’s landscapes, environments, and the relationships between people and their environments.

What is Human Geography?

The branch of geography that deals with how human activity affects or is influenced by the Earth's surface.

What is Globalization?

The process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale.

What is Cultural Landscape?

A geographic area that includes cultural resources and natural resources associated with the interactions between nature and human behavior.

What is Population Density?

A measurement of the number of people per unit area, typically expressed as people per square kilometer or square mile.

What is Carrying Capacity?

The maximum population size that an environment can sustain indefinitely without degrading.

What is Urbanization?

The increasing number of people that live in urban areas, the process involving the growth of cities.

What is Cartography?

The art and science of map-making.

What are Thematic Maps?

Maps that focus on a particular theme or subject area, such as climate, population, or economic activity.

What are Physical Maps?

Maps that show natural features of the Earth such as mountains, rivers, and lakes.

What are Political Maps?

Maps that show governmental boundaries of countries, states, and counties, as well as the location of major cities.

What is Scale in Geography?

The ratio of distance on a map to the corresponding distance on the ground.

What is Site?

The exact location of a place, including its physical setting.

What is Situation?

The location of a place relative to other places or features.

What is Absolute Location?

The exact position of a place on the Earth's surface, usually expressed in latitude and longitude.

What is Relative Location?

The position of a place in relation to other locations.

What is Spatial Distribution?

The arrangement of a phenomenon across the Earth's surface.

What is Landscape Analysis?

The examination of the relationships among various elements in a landscape.

What is Diffusion?

The process by which a characteristic spreads across space from one place to another over time.

What is Sustainability?

The use of Earth's resources in a way that ensures their availability for future generations.

What is Environmental Determinism?

The view that the physical environment predisposes societies and states toward particular development trajectories.

What is Possibilism?

The theory that the environment sets certain constraints or limits, but that people can adjust to the environment and make choices.
