Decanting
Utilizes difference in densities to Pour off layers of a heterogeneous mixture
Filtration
Utilizes difference in particle size to filter specific materials through small channels
Oversized and undissolved particles can’t pass through the channels
Distillation
Utilizes difference in boiling point to vaporize specific substances in order to separate them
Chromatography
Separated through different phases:
Mobile phase (fluid)
Stationary phase (solid)
Mobile phase is passed through the stationary phase, while carrying a certain substances of the mixture as it moves
Chemicals in a mixture will move through stationary quicker if they have a stronger attraction to the mobile phase (or thus a weaker attraction to the stationary)
