How much HCL do u use
10cm³ of 1 moldm^-3 HCL to tube - place in a plastic container without cross in it
How much odium this sulfate is used
10cm³ of 0.05 moldm^-3 (add this to a seperate tube to the HCL)
What do u do with the 2 tubes of HCL and s.t.sulfate
Place in container and place thermometer in the tube with sodium thiosulfate
What do u do once u record the start temp
Add 1cm³ of acid to the sulfate and start timer
Look from above and record time for cross to disappear
Record final temp of reaction mixture -
What do u do to the cloudy content
Pour it into sodium carbonate solution (acts as a stop bath)
Then add water from kettle to plastic container (no hotter than 55 )
Repeat step 1 and insert the HCL into the hole with cross under it
Leave tube to warm for 3 min
Repeat the steps - results for at least 5 diff temp
What is a stop bath and what’s the purpose and what happens when the colour of stop bath changes
The stop bath contains sodium carbonate and
Acid and sulfur dioxide can be neutralised at any point
Once colour of stop bath changes - sodium carbonate has been used up + stop bath needs to be replenished
How do u analyse the data ? What is an indication of reaction
Time taken to produce the same amount of sulfur at different temp is an indication rate of reaction
What do u do from the graph
The graph should be amount of sulfur against time
Initial rate of reaction can be worked out by amount of sulfur/time which is proportional to 1/time
What is 1/time an approximation of
It’s an approximation of rate of reaction
Doesn’t include concentration - the formula can be used as it assumes the amount of sulfur produced is fixed and constant
What is the formula for the PAG

The change of concentration of sulfur is
The concentration of sulfur is the same for each experiment so time can be taken and analysed
