quantity, many offspring with little parental care, may reproduce only once, but generally many times throughout life, short life, high pop. growth rate

habitats with higher comp. for resources, pop that reach carrying capacity (K) usually remain near K

habitats with lower comp. for resources, pop fluctuates above ir below carrying capacity (overshoot and die off)

why called r-selected

r is variable used to represent max reproductive rate in ecology

k- hard for pop to recover, death of parent=death of offspring, invasive outcompete for resources, less easy to adapt
