Sugar Transport

Travels via osmosis (sugar lowers water potential so other side gives water to even out)

Increase Water Potential

Physical force increases water potential to stop the flow of water

Tension-Cohesion Mechanism

The polarity of water creates effect where when the evaporation of water at the leave surface creates tension that pulls water up (through the plant).

Apoplastic Movement

Travels through spaces between cells (until it reaches endodermis)

Symplastic Movement

Travels into and through living cells

Germination Req

Seed needs to be hydrated before it is able to germinate

Self Incompatibility

When plants receive pollen, they will only be allowed to be fertilized if there is enough genetic variance in pollen. This allows for genetic diversity.

Double Fertilization

Happens in ovary when mother’s egg cell (2n) and endosperm (3n) are fertilized by two 1n nuclei in pollen grain

Simple Fleshy Fruit

Peach, avocado, stone fruit (grows from single ovary in one flower)

Aggregate Fruit

Raspberry (grows from multiple ovaries in one flower)

Accessory Fruit (Type of aggregate)

Strawberry (Most isn’t ovary tissue, fruits are tine “seeds” on outside)

Multiple Fruit

Pineapple (developed from many flowers whose ovaries fuse into one)

Simple Dry Fruit

Maple (has wings for wind dispersal)
