Panoramic Rotation - Right
Rotation to the right results in magnification and overlap on the right side of the jaw, and shrinkage of the left jaw.
Mean Energy
Determined by filtration and kVp; it represents beam quality and increases when low-energy photons are removed.
Filtration
The use of materials like aluminum to remove low-energy photons, which increases mean energy while keeping maximum energy constant.
kVp (Kilovoltage peak)
A factor that increases mean energy, maximum energy, beam quality, and the quantity of photons.
Submentovertex (SMV) / Base
An extraoral projection used for the skull base, zygomatic arch fractures, and sphenoid sinus (integrity and aeration).
SMV Exposure Technique
Under-exposure is used for evaluating the zygomatic arch to avoid over-exposure caused by normal factors.
PA Skull
A projection with high usefulness for the orbit, nasal cavity, and frontal sinus.
Waters Projection
A projection where the canthomeatal line forms a 37∘ angle with the receptor; highly useful for the orbit, zygoma, and maxillary sinus.
Open-Mouth Waters Projection
A variation where the sphenoid sinus is projected onto the patient's palate.
Reverse Towne (RT)
A projection performed with the mouth open, offering high usefulness for the condylar neck and condylar head.
Optical Density
The degree of film darkening, which has a useful upper limit of 1.5 that can be increased with hot lighting.
Favorable Vertical Fracture
A fracture plane orientation that prevents medial displacement of the posterior fragment by the medial pterygoid muscle.
Favorable Horizontal Fracture
A fracture plane orientation that prevents displacement of the posterior fragment by the masseter muscle.
Wispy Septa
Fine, thin radiographic septa associated with Central Giant Cell Granuloma (CGCG).
Soap-bubble Appearance
Large, curved multilocular septa seen in Ameloblastoma and Odontogenic Myxoma.
Honeycomb Appearance
A multilocular pattern of small spaces seen in Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor (CEOT).
Sunray Appearance
A radiating radiographic pattern associated specifically with Osteosarcoma.
Lamina Dura Loss
A radiographic feature linked to systemic conditions such as Hyperparathyroidism and Rickets.
Digital Resolution
Influenced by pixel size and phosphor thickness in digital systems; smaller pixel size increases resolution.
Universal Numbering System (Primary)
A system for primary teeth using letters ranging from A to T.
