Verbal Composite
A composite score measuring the ability to reason and recognize relationships among words and understand synonyms.
Quantitative Composite
A composite score measuring the ability to understand arithmetic relationships and use mathematical terms, formulas, and relationships.
Verbal Analogies
A subtest containing 25 items designed to measure the ability to reason and see relationships among words.
Arithmetic Reasoning
A subtest containing 25 items that measures the ability to use arithmetic to solve problems.
Word Knowledge
A subtest containing 25 items that measures knowledge of words and their meanings through identifying synonyms.
Math Knowledge
A subtest containing 25 items measuring knowledge of mathematical terms and principles.
Instrument Comprehension
A subtest containing 20 items that measures the ability to determine the position of an airplane in flight by reading an artificial horizon and compass.
Block Counting
A subtest containing 20 items measuring the ability to visualize a 3-dimensional pile of blocks and determine how many blocks a specific block touches.
Table Reading
A subtest containing 40 items measuring the ability to quickly find values at the intersection of X (column) and Y (row) coordinates.
Aviation Information
A subtest containing 20 items measuring general knowledge of aviation principles and terminology.
General Science
A subtest containing 20 items measuring knowledge across various scientific fields.
Rotated Blocks
A subtest containing 15 items measuring the ability to visualize and manipulate objects in space.
Hidden Figures
A subtest containing 15 items that tests the ability to see a simple figure within a complex drawing.
Self Description Inventory
A subtest containing 220 items measuring personal traits and attitudes relative to others in the same sex and age group.
Horizon Line
The heavy black line on an artificial horizon instrument that represents the external horizon and tilts relative to the aircraft's bank.
Bank
The degree of tilt an aircraft has to the pilot's right or left, indicated by a black pointer on the artificial horizon.
Cowling
A part of the aircraft located around the engine.
Angle of Attack
The angle formed by the chord of an airfoil and the direction of the relative wind.
Geothermal Energy
Energy derived from the internal heat of the Earth.
Lipids
Compounds including fats and oils found in foods and the human body.
Resistance
The tendency for a material to oppose the flow of electrons, measured in ohms.
