Strong Campbell Interest Inventory Test (SCII)
A career-interest assessment that classifies testtakers into six general occupational themes based on Holland’s RIASEC, developed by Strong Jr. and Campbell; level B; suitable for ages 13+.
Holland’s RIASEC
A six-type model used to categorize vocational interests: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional.
Realistic (R)
Prefers hands-on, practical activities; enjoys working with tools, machines, and physical tasks.
Investigative (I)
Likes problem-solving, research, and analyzing information; enjoys science and intellectual pursuits.
Artistic (A)
Values creativity, self-expression, and originality; enjoys unstructured environments.
Social (S)
Enjoys helping, teaching, and working with people; prefers roles with social interaction.
Enterprising (E)
Thrives in leadership, persuasion, and business-related fields; enjoys influencing others.
Conventional (C)
Prefers structured, detail-oriented work; enjoys organizing, clerical tasks, and working with data.
General Occupational Themes (GOTs)
Broad career themes derived from the RIASEC types used to categorize interests.
Basic Interest Scales (BISs)
Detailed subcategories under GOTs that identify specific areas of interest.
Occupational Scales (OSs)
Compare a person’s responses with professionals in various occupations to find best career matches.
Self-report (SCII)
Response format for SCII where testtakers indicate Like, Dislike, or Indifferent to items.
Interest Scores (I) and Skill Scores (S)
For each scale, I measures how much a person likes an activity; S measures confidence in performing it.
Score Patterns (SCII)
Four possible patterns of interest and skill combinations used to determine strengths and career suitability.
Administrative Index & Special Scales
One of the four main SCII score groups used to summarize administrative data and special scales.
Total items on SCII
325 items; each item refers to an activity; expected administration time is 35–40 minutes.
Thurstone Interest Schedule
