Maternal Mortality
Despite significant improvements over the years, maternal mortality remains a pressing issue in many parts of the world, particularly in low-resource settings. Efforts are being made to improve access to skilled care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period to reduce maternal deaths.
Child Mortality
Decreased globally, but preventable causes buch as pneumonia, diarrhea, and malnutrition continue to contribute to child deaths, particularly in developing countries.
Nutrition and Stunting
Malnutrition, undernutrition, and stunting (low height for age) remain significant concerns for child health and development, affecting cognitive and physical growth.
Immunization
Ensuring access to essential vaccines for children is crucial to prevent diseases and improve child health. However, vaccine hesitancy and access issues in some areas can hinder progress.
Teenage Pregnancy
Adolescent girls face unique health risks during pregnancy, and teenage pregnancy can impact both maternal and child health. Comprehensive sexual education and access to reproductive health services are important to address this issue.
Access to Healthcare
Disparities in access to quality healthcare services, particularly for marginalized populations, can lead to suboptimal maternal and child health outcomes.
Mental Health
Maternal mental health, including postpartum depression and anxiety can have lasting effects on both the mother and child. Recognizing and addressing mental health issues is gaining more attention in maternal and child health programs.
Child Development
Early childhood development, including access to early education and stimulation, plays a crucial role in a child's overall well-being and future success.
Child Protection
Child protection issues, such as child abuse, child labor, and child marriage, can have severe consequences for both maternal and child health.
Family Planning
Access to family planning services and education is important for maternal and child health as it allows families to space pregnancies, promote healthier pregnancies, and make informed decisions about their family size.
