Dance
An art form that uses the human body as its instrument and movement as its medium, involving sequenced steps and rhythmic movements often accompanied by music.
First Position (Arm)
A basic arm position where both arms are bent at chest level with elbows rounded and relaxed, and fingers slightly apart.
Second Position (Arm)
A basic arm position where both arms are opened sideways below shoulder level with elbows rounded and fingers pointing upward.
Third Position (Arm)
A basic arm position where the right arm is raised sideward with a rounded elbow, encircling overhead.
Fourth Position (Arm)
A basic arm position where the right arm encircles like the first position and the left arm is raised overhead.
Fifth Position (Arm)
A basic arm position where both arms are raised upward overhead with elbows rounded.
First Position (Foot)
A basic foot position where heels are together and toes of both feet are turned out.
Second Position (Foot)
A basic foot position where the right foot is placed sideward in line with the heel of the other foot.
Third Position (Foot)
A basic foot position where the heel of the right foot is drawn to the instep of the left foot.
Fourth Position (Foot)
A basic foot position where the right foot is placed obliquely forward with toes pointing outward.
Fifth Position (Foot)
A basic foot position where the heel of the right foot is drawn to the toes of the left foot.
Folk Dance
Dances that reflect the social and recreational experiences of communities, preserving national characteristics in music, steps, and costumes.
Ethnic Dance
Dances that reveal unique tribal characteristics, highlighting cultural, racial, and religious traditions.
National Dance
Folk dances widely performed in specific countries, such as the Carinosa and Tinikling in the Philippines.
Saludo
A bow executed with feet together, performed to partners, audience, opposite dancers, or neighbors at the beginning and end of a dance.
Arms in Lateral Position
A dance position where both arms are on one side (right or left) at shoulder, chest, or waist level.
Brush
A dance step where weight is on one foot while hitting the floor with the ball or heel of the other foot, then lifting it in any direction.
Bleking
A dance movement where the heel of the foot is placed on the floor in front or across in front.
Cabeceras
A Spanish-origin dance term referring to the head couples occupying the width of the hall in a square formation.
Costados
A Spanish-origin dance term referring to the side pairs occupying the length of the hall in a square formation.
Hayon-Hayon
A Visayan dance term where one forearm is placed in front and the other at the back of the waist.

Kumintang
An Ilocano dance term referring to moving the hand from the wrist in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
Panadyak
A Tagalog dance term meaning to stamp in front or at the side with one foot and tap the same foot close to the other, keeping weight on the other foot.
Salok
A dance movement where the trunk is bent forward and the arm is swung downward and upward, passing in front of the body as if scooping.
Sarok
A dance movement where one foot is crossed in front of the other, body is bent slightly forward, and hands are crossed in front.
Occupational Dances
Dances depicting movements related to specific occupations, industries, or manual labor, such as pounding, harvesting, winnowing, and planting.
Religious or Ceremonial Dances
Dances performed in connection with religious festivities and ceremonies, such as Santa Clarang pinong pino and Putung.
Comic Dances
Dances depicting funny movements for entertainment, such as Kinoton and Makongo.
Wedding Dances
Dances performed by a newlywed couple after a wedding, such as Panasahan.
Game Dances
Dances containing elements of play or dance mixers, such as Lubi-lubi and Pabo.
