Meristematic Tissues
Tissues that are actively dividing and responsible for growth.
Apical Meristem
Meristematic tissue located at the tips of shoots and roots.
Intercalary Meristem
Meristematic tissue located near the node or at the base of the internode in some plants.
Lateral Meristem
Meristematic tissue responsible for increasing the thickness or girth of the stem or root.
Permanent Tissues
Tissues that have stopped dividing and have a fixed shape, size, function, and location.
Parenchyma
Living tissue with thin cell walls and abundant intercellular spaces.
Chlorenchyma
Parenchyma tissue that contains chloroplasts and is involved in photosynthesis.
Collenchyma
Living tissue with irregularly thickened cell walls at corners and little or no intercellular spaces.
Sclerenchyma
Tissue with thick, lignified cell walls that provides support and protection.
Animal Tissues
Tissues found in animals that are specialized for mobility.
