Computing Device
Anything uses internet and anything that can run a program
Computing System
A group of computing devices and programs working together for a common purpose
Computing Network
A group of interconnected computing devices capable of sending or receiving data
Path
The series of connections between computing devices on a network starting with a sender and ending with a receiver
Bandwidth
The amount of data that can be sent in a specific amount of time in bits per second
Protocol
a set of rules for any specific thing
IP Address
a devices unique id when they hook up with the internet
Internet Protocol (IP)
It is a set of rules governing the format of data sent over the internet or local network. It allows us to communicate with each other, ensuring data is transmitted across networks accurately.
Router
A computing device that forwards data to another router or computer
Packet
A chunk of data sent over a network. Larger messages are divided into packets that may arrive at the destination in order, out-of-order, or not at all.
Redundancy
the inclusion of extra components so that a system can continue to work even if individual components fail, for example by having more than one path between any two connected devices in a network.
Fault Tolerant
Can continue to function even in the event of individual component failures. This is important because elements of complex systems like a computer network fail at unexpected times, often in groups.
UDP
The goal is to send information quickly without worrying about accuracy.Doesn’t care if packets get dropped or are in order Useful when split seconds matter more than correcting eros, like video-conferencing, live streaming, online gaming
ACK
Acknowledgement
TDP
More accurate but slower. Can be re-ordered. Confirm all were received, resend any missing packets. Multiple back and forth confirmations betweens sender and receiver. Useful when accuracy matters more than saving a split second, like sending emails, photos, or just browsing websites.
HTTP
a protocol for computers to request and share the pages that make up the world wide web on the Internet
Domain Name System (DNS)
the system responsible for translating domain names like example.com into IP addresses
Internet
a worldwide system of interconnected computer networks and electronic devices that communicate with each other using an established set of protocols.
World Wide Web
a system of linked pages, programs, and files
Digital Divide
Those who have access to modern technology and those who do not
