DIsagreements over what issues cause something called Culture War

public opinion about what the level of government involvement should be on balancing the rights and liberties of its citizens with the need to regulate public behavior in order to create a better society (arguments about the right to privacy, and in issues regarding public safety) can be extremely controversial and divisive.

What are the two sides in the Culture War?

Orthodox and Progressive

Orthodox

• believe morality is more important than personal freedom

• Societal rules or laws should be based on the 'laws of nature and nature's God

Progressive

• hold that personal freedom and the flexibility to reevaluate traditional rules when solving problems is most important
