What is the order of operations?
A set of rules that dictate the order in which mathematical operations should be performed. Commonly remembered by the acronym PEMDAS.
Define variable.
A symbol (usually a letter) that represents a number. For example, in the expression 3x + 5, x is the variable.
What is an expression?
A combination of numbers, variables, and operation symbols. Example: 4x - 2 + y
Define equation.
A mathematical statement that two expressions are equal. It contains an equals sign (=). Example: 2x + 3 = 7
