Foods to Avoid for Cardiovascular Health:
Saturated fats from beef, pork, and dairy.
Usually in animal products or products with lots of fat (types of fats)
Sodium-Restricted Diet:
Avoid processed and canned foods; fresh fruits and vegetables preferred.
Because of shortness of breath, don’t want their heart to work harder than it needs to work
High sodium foods: processed foods, things in cans (ex: soups), frozen foods
Mediterranean diet:
Good to follow for CVD
Focus on fat content, focus on good fats, olive oil, fruits, nuts, moderate in fish and poultry, limit processed red meats, sweets, diary
DASH diet:
Good to follow for CVD
does not limit fat content
more focused on preventing or reducing hypertension by reducing sodium
