Emotional regulation
The process of monitoring, evaluating, and modulating one's emotional responses, especially during intense emotions, to maintain clear thinking and learning.
Stressors
Events or conditions that cause stress; accumulation of stressors can impact emotional regulation and overall mental health.
Personal distress
A high level of emotional suffering or discomfort that can accompany mental health concerns and affect functioning.
Emotional dysregulation
When emotions are not effectively regulated, leading to impaired thinking, learning, or behavior.
Cognitive impact of intense emotions
The effect where strong emotions hinder clear thinking and the ability to learn.
Strengths and weaknesses in mental health
The idea that individuals may have areas of resilience as well as vulnerabilities in mental health.
Diagnosis in mental health
The process of determining whether a person meets criteria for a specific mental health disorder; not everyone with certain traits will be diagnosed.

The specific time or condition at which data is collected in a research study or experiment.
Emotional intensity
The degree to which an emotional experience is felt or expressed; higher intensity can affect regulation and cognitive functioning.
