What structures does the PSA anesthetize?
- all but MB root 1st molar
- 2nd molar
- 3rd molar
- buccal periodontium,
overlying facial soft
tissues
What needle would you use when doing a PSA?
25 or 27 gauge
SHORT needle
Where would you inject for a PSA?
1. mucobuccal fold over 2nd molar
2. into space at zygomatic process
3. syringe parallel long axis of tooth out about 45 degrees
4. advance until needle is at or above the apical region of tooth (6-8mm)
What are the specifics to the PSA?
- topical for 1min
- 0.6 ml over 30 sec
- 1/2 cartridge
- wait 3-5 min
What structures does the MSA anesthetize?
- premolars
- MB root of 1st molar
- buccal periodontal tissues, bone over premolars
What needle would you use when doing a MSA?
25 or 27 gauge
SHORT needle
Where would you inject for a MSA?
- mucobuccal fold over
2nd premolar
- target: bone above
apex of 2nd premolar
(check radiographs)
- syringe parallel long
axis of tooth , 20 degrees
- advance until needle is
at or above the apical
region of tooth - no
more than 6mm or 1/4
needle
What are the specifics to the MSA?
- topical for 1min
- 1/2 cartridge
- wait 3-5 min
What structures does the ASA anesthetize?
- canine
- lateral incisors
- central incisors
- labial periodontium
What needle would you use when doing a ASA?
25 or 27 gauge
SHORT needle
Where would you inject for a ASA?
- slightly anterior to
canine eminence
- syringe parallel long
axis of tooth
- advance until needle is
at or above the apical
region of tooth - no
more than 6mm or 1/4
needle
What are the specifics to the ASA?
- topical for 1 min
- 0.9 ml over 30-45 sec
- 1/2 of cartridge
- wait 3-5 min
What structures does the GP anesthetize?
- lingual soft tissue of molars and premolars
- posterior portion of hard palate, it's overlying tissues to median suture
What needle would you use when doing a GP?
27 gauge
SHORT needle
Where would you inject for a GP?
- locate and apply pressure to greater palatine foramen distal to 2nd molar
- advance syringe from opposite side with needle at right angle to the palate
- apply pressure for 30 sec. before inserting needle ant. to GP foramen
- apply enough pressure to slightly bow needle
- deposit small amount
- straighten needle, advance to bone giving drops of anesthesia until bone is felt pull back 1 mm
What are the specifics to the GP?
- topical for 2 min
- 0.45-0.6 ml
- 1⁄4 of cartridge
- wait 3-5 min
What structures does the NP anesthetize?
- L from canine to canine
- anterior portion of hard palate, it's overlying tissues (Premaxilla)
What needle would you use when doing a NP?
27 gauge
SHORT needle
Where would you inject for a NP?
- after 2 min of topical apply pressure to incisive papilla 30 seconds
- apply enough pressure to slightly bow needle
- deposit small amount
- straighten needle
- depth: less than 5 mm, advance giving drops until bone is felt, pull back 1mm aspirate
What are the specifics to the NP?
- topical for 2 min
- 0.45 ml over 15-30 sec
- 1⁄4 of cartridge
- wait 2-3 min
